Who We Are

Welcome to Surgical Associates Southern Indiana (SASI), a practice designed for the unique surgical needs of today’s patients.

SASI is a group of four board certified physicians who offer comprehensive surgical services. We provide complete surgical care for patients from early childhood through the aged, including cancer surgery, hernia surgery, colon surgery, gallbladder surgery, breast surgery, and endoscopic procedures (colonoscopies/EGD).

All four of our physicians provide surgical services at Clark Memorial Hospital, with one surgeon providing surgical services to Scott Memorial Hospital as well. Our new office provides the latest technology and has the ability to perform Ultrasound Guided Breast Mammotome, a much less invasive breast biopsy, requiring only local anesthetic. This procedure may not be appropriate for all patients.

We understand that any surgical procedure is a serious matter to you, your family and your primary care physician. Because of this, we go to great lengths to help you understand everything related to your surgery, from the procedure itself to the preparations you’ll need to make and what to expect in the hours and days following your surgery.

We want to make sure we address any specific concerns and questions to your complete satisfaction, and to assure you that our entire team is devoted to providing you with the best possible care before, during and after surgery. We are also committed to working closely with your physician and communicating with him or her at every stage of care.

The practice which today is Surgical Associates Southern Indiana was founded in 1969 by Dr. Gordon Gutmann. Dr. Gutmann’s reputation as a medical professional and as a leader in the local medical community is unsurpassed in the region. Now retired, Dr. Gutmann remains active behind the scenes, and the team that he has assembled over the years continues the tradition of care and expertise he began four decades ago.
